Education & Training
Vocational Education and Training as well as informal/nonformal education and the continuous adaptation of skills during the whole life play a key role in order to achieve the strategic goal of becoming the most competitive knowledge-based economy by 2010.
European Chambers of Commerce and Industry play a fundamental role in Education and training, by cooperating closely with enterprises, and thus emphasizing on-the-job training at all levels, through apprenticeships or internships. Companies - especially SMEs - don’t focus on qualifications but on competences. It is thus crucial to take the specific SMEs’ needs into account when designing professional training programmes.
Some Figures about our network:
- 2.7 million people trained per year, including 1.9 million young and 800 000 adults in life long learning courses
- More than 1,000 training centres managed by European Chambers.
- 17,000 teachers, professors, and trainers.
- In nearly 95% of European Chambers, businesses are involved in some way in determining the educational content provided.
- In some countries, Chambers of commerce and Industry are the second most important provider of training after the public sector.
